Terms and Conditions

Last updated: September 7, 2026

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Ratio, Nau mobile app and the rationau.com website (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the Service.

How we handle your personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

1. Who may use Ratio, Nau

The Service is intended only for people aged 16 or older. By using it, you represent that you are at least that age. If you are between 16 and the age of majority where you live, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. This threshold matches the app’s age rating on the app stores, where some countries apply an equivalent local rating.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If we discover, or are told about, an account created by someone under that age, we delete it along with its content, without prior notice. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, write to privacy@rationau.com.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account. You must provide a valid email address, and you may not impersonate anyone else or create accounts to get around a prior suspension.

You may delete your account at any time from the app or from the Delete Account page. Deletion is immediate and irreversible on the terms in section 6 of the Privacy Policy.

3. Personal, non-commercial use

Ratio, Nau is offered for your personal, non-commercial use: keeping your coffee recipes, your beans, and your brew journals, and sharing them with other people through the links the app generates.

Without our prior written permission, you may not:

  • Resell, sublicense, rent, or otherwise commercialize the Service or access to it.
  • Extract content in bulk or by automated means (scraping, crawlers, scripts) from the app, the API, or the website.
  • Reuse the Service’s content to build, train, or feed your own or a third party’s product, database, or model.
  • Use the Service for advertising, commercial promotion, or unsolicited messaging.
  • Attempt to breach the Service’s security, access other people’s data, or circumvent technical or usage limits.
  • Post content that is unlawful, misleading, defamatory, infringing on third-party rights, or that you have no right to post.

4. Content you post

The content you create — recipes, beans, tasting notes, author notes — is yours. You keep every right you hold in it.

By making a recipe or a bean public, or by generating a link to share it, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, reproduce, and display that content inside the Service and on the website’s public pages (rationau.com/r/[code] and rationau.com/b/[code]), for the sole purpose of operating the Service. This license ends when you delete the content or make it private again, except for the public recipes you choose to keep when deleting your account, under section 6 of the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for the content you post. We do not pre-screen or verify what people publish.

5. Third-party brands and names

The Service lets you freely type the names of the roasters, brands, farms, cafés, gear, and methods you use. Those names are trademarks and distinctive signs of their respective owners, used purely descriptively and informationally so you can identify the coffee you are brewing.

Ratio, Nau is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or associated with any of those brands, and does not claim to represent them. A brand mentioned inside a recipe or a bean implies no commercial relationship whatsoever.

We may remove any mention of a brand, trade name, logo, or associated content, at the owner’s request or at our own discretion, without prior notice and without having to justify it. If you own a trademark and want to request removal of a mention or of content using it, write to legal@rationau.com with the brand, the content in question, and the reason for the request.

6. Community guidelines and content removal

6.1 What you may not post

Ratio, Nau exists for sharing brewing knowledge, respectful feedback, and public profiles. On that basis, the following may not be posted:

  • Spam or repeated promotion — content posted in volume, repeated, or whose purpose is to promote something unrelated to brewing coffee.
  • Harassment or intimidation — content aimed at harassing, intimidating, or humiliating a specific person.
  • Hate or abusive slurs — attacks or dehumanization based on origin, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, or any equivalent characteristic.
  • Sexual content — sexually explicit or sexually abusive material, and any content that sexualizes a minor.
  • Impersonation — passing yourself off as another person, brand, or roaster, or presenting an account as official when it is not.
  • Dangerous misinformation — false claims capable of causing real harm to someone’s health or safety.

Each of these categories maps to an option in the app’s reporting tools, so what you read here is what you can flag there; you can also report something that fits none of them.

Posting content of these kinds may lead to its removal and to the suspension of your account under section 6.2.

6.2 Content removal and account suspension

We may remove, hide, or stop displaying any recipe, bean, note, image, username, or shared content — including brands and references to third parties — without prior notice, where in our reasonable judgment it:

  • Infringes someone’s intellectual property, likeness, or privacy rights.
  • Breaches these Terms or applicable law.
  • Is unlawful, offensive, misleading, or harmful to other people.
  • Compromises the security, integrity, or operation of the Service.
  • Must be taken down at the request of a competent authority or a third party with a legitimate right.

We may also suspend or delete your account for the same reasons, or if you use the Service in a way that harms other people or the Service itself. Where reasonable and possible we will tell you and explain why, but we are not required to do so before acting.

Removing content creates no right to compensation. If you believe we removed something in error, write to legal@rationau.com.

7. Availability and changes to the Service

Ratio, Nau is a project maintained by one person, so the Service changes over time: we add features, adjust others, and occasionally retire one.

You can download your recipes from the app whenever you like, to keep your own copy outside Ratio, Nau. No particular reason needed, and no need to ask us.

In the unlikely event that we had to discontinue the Service, we would give you reasonable advance notice so you can download your recipes before that happens.

The app is funded by advertising and by voluntary donations. Donations are not required, unlock no additional features, and are non-refundable.

8. The Service is provided “as is”

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability, or freedom from errors.

Recipes, ratios, times, and temperatures are user-created brewing references; they are not professional advice or health recommendations. Use your own judgment when handling hot water and brewing equipment.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, nor for loss of data, content, or opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

Nothing in these Terms limits liabilities that cannot be excluded under applicable law, nor any rights you have as a consumer.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may terminate or suspend your access under section 6. On termination, sections 4 (as to retained content), 5, 8, 9, and 11 survive.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Significant changes are communicated by updating the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the Service after an update, you accept the modified Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Mexican States. Any dispute will be submitted to the competent courts of that country, without prejudice to the consumer rights granted to you by the law of your place of residence.
