Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Ratio, Nau collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and website at rationau.com.
1. Information We Collect
Account. When you create an account, we collect your email address and the display name you choose.
Recipes. We store the recipes you create: brewing parameters (ratio, weight, temperature, time, method), notes, and descriptions.
Device information. We may collect your operating system version and app version to diagnose technical issues.
Advertising. The app displays ads served by Google AdMob. To deliver and measure them, Google and its advertising partners may collect device advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, Android advertising ID, and App Set ID), your IP address — from which an approximate country- or region-level location is derived — device characteristics, and ad interaction data (impressions, clicks). We do not collect your precise GPS location.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Operate the app and sync your recipes across devices
- Generate shareable recipe links (
rationau.com/r/[code]) - Send transactional emails when you request them (account confirmation, password reset)
- Respond to support requests
- Display ads that help cover operating costs and keep the app free
We do not sell your personal information for money. Note that under some United States privacy laws, personalized advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. You can turn it off at any time; see section 5.
3. Information Sharing
Infrastructure. We use Supabase to store and process your data. You can review their privacy practices at supabase.com/privacy.
Crash diagnostics. We use Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) to detect and diagnose app crashes. Crashlytics collects device model, operating system version, app version, and error traces at the time of the crash. This information is processed on Google’s servers in the United States. You can review Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Advertising. We use Google AdMob (Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited) to display ads inside the app. Google acts as an independent advertising provider and processes the identifiers and data described in section 1 to deliver and measure ads, cap how often you see the same ad, and detect fraud. This information may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States. You can review how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/ads and business.safety.google/privacy. We do not share your email address, display name, or recipe content with advertisers.
Public recipes. When you share a recipe via a /r/[code] link, that recipe’s parameters are visible to anyone with the link.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
On the rationau.com website we use browser storage only to keep your session active. The website shows no ads and uses no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
The mobile app does not use cookies: the AdMob SDK relies on the device identifiers described in section 1 to operate.
5. Advertising and Your Controls
Ads fund the app’s operation. You can limit how your data is used for advertising at any time:
- iOS. Before using the advertising identifier (IDFA) for personalized ads, we ask for your permission through App Tracking Transparency. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized. You can change your choice in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android. You can turn off ads personalization or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
- European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Before loading ads we show a consent notice managed with Google’s User Messaging Platform. You can review and change your preferences at any time from the privacy options inside the app.
- United States. If you live in a state with consumer privacy laws, you can opt out of personalized advertising by declining tracking or consent using the controls above; from then on you will only see non-personalized ads.

6. Data Retention
We retain your data while your account is active and while the service needs it for legitimate operational purposes.
Deleting your account
Deleting your account removes the account itself, your profile, your private recipes, your brew journals, favorites, votes, and follow relationships. Deletion runs when you confirm the request and takes effect immediately on our live systems: there is no trash and no grace period, and we cannot restore the account afterwards, not even if you ask us to.
Our database provider generates automatic technical backups that are retained for at most 7 days and are then purged on their own. They exist solely for recovery from infrastructure failure; we do not consult them or use them to restore deleted accounts. After those 7 days, no copy of your data remains.
The only exceptions to the above are the public recipes you choose to keep, described below, and anything the law requires us to retain.
Before it runs, the app offers you one choice about recipes that were already public:
- Delete everything — the default. Every recipe, public and private, is deleted along with the account. Confirming without changing anything gets this outcome.
- Keep already-public recipes without your identity — public recipes stay on the platform as author-less content so that other people’s saved links, favorites, and remixes keep working. Your name, username, and profile link are removed; the recipe is no longer attached to any account and is not presented as belonging to one.
If you choose to keep them:
- Removed — the link to your account, so the recipe belongs to no one.
- Kept as written — the recipe’s title and its tasting notes. We do not rewrite or redact that text. If the title or tasting notes name a person, edit them before deleting your account.
- Removed — the recipe’s author notes. This is the field written in your own voice and addressed to a reader, so it is the likeliest to name a person or a circumstance. Retention keeps a protocol other people can still brew; it does not keep the departed author’s commentary on it.
- Kept — the brewing parameters (grams, ratio, grind, temperature, times, pours) and the recipe’s share code, so existing links keep resolving.
Retention applies only to recipes that were public at the moment of deletion. Private and archived recipes are always deleted, under either choice.
The choice cannot be undone. Once the account is gone there is no account left to ask with, and no way to reclaim or re-attach a retained recipe. To request removal of a retained recipe afterwards, write to privacy@rationau.com or use the in-app reporting flow.
Deletion requested from the Delete Account page on this site, through the emailed confirmation link, always deletes everything. The option to keep public recipes is offered only inside the app, where it can be read and consented to.
7. Your Rights
You may request at any time:
- Access to the data we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion of your account and its associated data, on the terms in section 6
- Portability of your data
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@rationau.com or use the Delete Account page to request deletion by email confirmation.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, and Supabase’s Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure your private recipes are only accessible to you.

9. Children
Ratio, Nau is not directed at anyone under 16 — the app’s age rating on the app stores — and we do not knowingly collect information from people under that age. The ads we show are not directed at children, and we limit their content rating to material suitable for general audiences. If you believe a minor has provided us their information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Significant changes are communicated by updating the date at the top of this page.
